Good morning birders!

At 8 am this morning, I happened to look through the scope I have set up in our small dining area and didn't realize it at first, but she was sitting on the nest! It is a bit more obscure than previous nests, sadly.

I think she was settling in, getting it shaped up. It's a different nest - in the "saddle" of the branch, making it less like a "bump on a log" but "nest"led into it. If it had a rope on either end, it could almost be a hammock. And when that breeze kicks up, it probably feels like it! But I imagine a brisk breeze to a hummingbird must feel like a gale force wind! (It's dizzying to me as it sways in the scope!)

I've been hoping to see her decorate this new throne (I'm wondering if it is Queen Anna or a previous offspring) with a lichen. I can see some at the base of the nest. Wasn't sure if they came after the nest was built but this must be a layering, building and decorating as she goes. There's an odd colored "fluff" (not the white fluff from the ball). I'm not sure if it's spider created or a bit of old insulation. Not the current pink variety.

Stay tuned...
