Yesterday afternoon I heard a very suspicious whit call at Ellis Pond on Mercer Island that immediately recalled Dusky Flycatcher. However, I lost track of the bird in the rain. Today I went back to investigate, and was stunned to hear whit calls coming from two opposite directions! Though my audio recordings fell through, I managed to get good visuals and a couple bad photos of one. Finding 3 Duskies in King County in one week -- not bad!! This is also my second year in a row finding a Dusky at Ellis Pond, so it is certainly an attractive park for the species I would say!

I then headed straight to Lake Sammamish State Park for a Brewer's Sparrow freshly found by Josh Rudolph. The sparrow was hopping around some tree root balls at the west end of the main, central (AKA east swimming) beach in the park. I got a nice shot when the sparrow perched up briefly. The crane, unfortunately, flew in after I left -- you can't get everything!

It has shaped up to be an incredible spring for east-side migrants in western Washington. Loggerhead Shrike, Nashville Warbler, Brewer's Sparrow, Dusky Flycatcher... the list goes on! And migration still has weeks to go... what will you find out there?
