When away from Washington, it is always difficult to read the reports of great bird sightings on Ebird and Tweeters. ?Hope some of the goodies remain until we return. ?But great birding away helps ease the envy.
Frank Caruso and I are birding in South Florida where I last birded 39 years ago. ?We spent the last three days birding with local guide Paul Bithorn who has been terrific. ?This morning we join a group with the Tropical Audubon Society and head to the Keys and the Dry Tortugas. ?It has already been exceptional with more than 130 species including many exotics and 13 PARAKEETS.
Some of our best: Swallow Tailed and Snail Kites, Black Whiskered and Thick Billed Vireos, Short Tailed Hawk, Limpkin, Purple Gallinule, Gray Headed Swamphen, Least Bittern, Western Spindalis, Bananaquit, Red Whiskered Bulbul, Common and Hill Mynas and all those parakeets (many ABA countable). ?I have photos of most which I will post sometime after I get back.
Hard to imagine a place more different from Seattle. ?Sun everyday. ?83 on Tuesday and Wednesday but 94 yesterday was way too much. ?More coming today.
Enjoying this trip but looking forward to return.
