Hi Tweets! - Yesterday, Ken Trease and I did the northern part of the Edmonds CBC in Mukilteo with some great company, excellent weather, and a few nice birds. (OK, it ain't Neah Bay, but...) At Mukilteo Lighthouse Park we had a good selection of seabirds, low in scoters but high in goldeneye and alcids (Rhinoceros Auklet, Pigeon Guillemot, Marbled Murrelet (the latter in close at the boat ramp!)) that continued along the shore to Edgewater Park (14 MAMU total). Along Mukilteo Lane in the embankment to the south was a good selection of sparrows and a clump of alders had the day's prize: 3 Common Redpolls (saves a trip to Greenlake!). Later in the day, at the Narbeck Wetland Restoration area, we were looking at a very close Barred Owl when it was chased off its perch by a vicious Cooper's Hawk! The owl didn't go far and was back in a wide open perch about 8 feet from the trail about 30 minutes later. For the day, our group had about 56 spp. but not a lot of numbers for most species. Another group in our area had a White-Throated Sparrow in a yard south of Lighthouse Park. Happy Birding! - Jon Houghton, Edmonds
