Over the past two years 400 of these birds have been captured in Nanaimo, on central Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, and banded and marked with a white neck collar while they were flightless during their summer moult period, to track their movements (see study description below). While many have remained in the Nanaimo area, some have wintered as far south (so far) as southern Oregon and returned to Nanaimo the following summer. If you see one (or more), please record the '3 digit + letter' collar code(s), readable with binoculars at short range or a scope at longer range, and either report the sighting to the study website as described below, or send a brief e-mail with the location, date, time, collar code(s), number of uncollared geese present and any other relevant details to one of the e-mail addresses indicated below, or to me at the address above.

> As part of the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Bird Banding project, we banded and collared another set of 200 Canada Geese around Nanaimo last June. This banding effort is part of 2-year project to determine the abundance, distribution and movement of geese in the Nanaimo area. The geese have white neck collars with black lettering that ranges from 000P to 199P (banded in 2016) and 201P to 400P (banded in 2017).

> We are conducting regular surveys to track these geese, but we hope to increase the number of collared goose sightings by encouraging birders and members of the public to report their sightings through our project website - https://wordpress.viu.ca/gooseproject/. There is a simple form to fill out to report sightings. We are interested in any sightings of these geese, whether in the Nanaimo area or elsewhere, including the number of ?uncollared? geese they may associated with.
