Hello Tweeters,

Our newest little hummingbird nest - which I am counting as having eggs since Feb. 1, had quite a start with the snow and rain this week.
She's steadfastly sitting on her jelly bellies in her fluffed up "down coat". I'm wondering if they are able to sleep or if they would go into torpor on the nest.

I saw her today adding more fluff, tucking it around the eggs, which I cannot see from 30' below ;-( but so far so good. She does have a 7-11 at hand on our deck with food and fluff - along with the sarcococca and Viburnum bodnantense 'Dawn" in full bloom below her.

The scope is set and have a chair their to check on her throughout the day which helps with Hummer Neck.

There has been another female (no chin patch at all) so can't quite age it, but wondering if she too has a nest. They both sat near each other - one on a branch, the other on the feeder seeming to tolerate each others presence.

I've also had a Downy woodpecker, a Brown Creeper, and the Varied Thrushes visiting so lots of activity in one small 1/4 acre in Wedgwood.

Funny that the hummers nest in sync with Superbowl. Guess they have their own Minibowl going on complete with two little white footballs. Sorry for the poor metaphors.

We've been lucky enough to have them nesting with us (nests that we were able to find anyway - perhaps they've been nesting more than we were aware of) for 4 years now! Since our Seahawks won the Superbowl!

I hope this one will be as successful as the first!
