Subject: [Tweeters] Great Backyard Bird Count motorless challenge

The Great Backyard Bird Count begins this coming Friday and will
go through President's Day weekend. The roots of GBBC are found
in Project Feederwatch and were meant to focus on birds coming to
backyard habitats. It's grown a bit.

The GBBC database is now embedded in the larger eBird database and
over the GBBC weekend any submitted eBird data will be included in
the count whether it's from folks participating in GBBC or just
out birding miles and miles away from their backyard.

Over the last few years, I've taken to making my GBBC bird-finding
weekend completely motorless. I walk the streets of Astoria to see
what I can find, but bicycling would be motorless, and sitting on the
back porch all day would be motorless.

So, my challenge: go motorless for the GBBC and in the comments section
of the date and time form write "motorless". You could add walking or
biking or while bouncing on a pogo-stick if those bits of metadata
improve our understanding of your methodology.

Let's nudge the Great Backyard Bird Count back toward it local patch
roots and bird close to home this weekend.
