Hi Tweeters -
There?s been an Acorn Woodpecker hanging out in Sammamish in King County this winter ? initially, it was being reported only from a homeowner?s feeder and yard, at a location that didn?t allow public access. Now however, a few folks have sighted the bird nearby at a park, and it seems to at least occasionally be showing up in public areas where privacy is not a concern.

Location: East Sammamish Park [google gives the address as: 21300 NE 16th, Sammamish ? enter on the south side, off NE 16th]

The woodpecker has been seen & heard in the park, and in the neighborhood around the park ? obviously, please respect the neighbors if birding the residential areas ? On at least some occasions, it seems to have taken up with a group of Northern Flickers, so if you hear a bunch of flickers together, keep an eye out!

This is about the 6th record of Acorn Woodpecker for King County.
