Hi Tweeters,

Connie Sidles and I had a rather incredible day at Montlake Fill today. We
noticed large numbers of Ruddy Ducks in the bay near Waterlily Cove, and
ended with 86! (An apparent record number). There was also a Horned Grebe
farther out by a mud island. We got good looks at a Virginia Rail and heard
another near Main Pond. Waterfowl numbers didn't seem too effected by the
iced over ponds, and we had six Redheads, six Pintails, about thirty
Canvasbacks, and around forty Lesser Scaup.
We moved over to Conibear where we located a gull that we eventually agreed
was a pure Western, pretty rare at the Fill. The Green Heron was also there
near the shell-house despite the ice.
Driving back towards the Fill, I spotted some Killdeer on the helipad
field, and we pulled over. In no time, Connie found a Western Meadowlark
among them, another uncommon bird for the Fill (At least nowadays).
Killdeer numbers were impressive, with nine on the field.

A couple Trumpeter Swans
Greater Scaup
Three Lincoln's Sparrows (Since the mitigation started they have been hard
to come by)
