Dear Tweeters,
Several birders wrote back to me, in regard to the ID of a pair of birds pictured on a stamp. The plastic stamp was shown to me by an arts-and-crafts person who wanted to color her stamps accurately.?
My initial guess, which I kept to myself, was Dickcissel. A couple of replies bent that way as well. There was one guess for Rose-breasted Grosbeak, one for grosbeak species, one for cowbird species, and one for Purple Finch.
I think it should be considered as a "Stamp Bunting," and that the lady should color it any way that fancy deems right!
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
PS After all of the wonderful looks at the rare Falcated Duck and the rare Rock Sandpiper yesterday, I was able to relocate the American Tree Sparrow on Lindgren Road (Skagit County). Then I tried for ducks on Big Lake, but that lake was still almost entirely encased in ice. People were still out walking across the ice (probably not too wisely). There were just a few waterfowl in the one little area of open water, but no diving birds with red heads!
