Today 35 of us enjoyed a great day at Nisqually. It was overcast but dry
and the temps were in the 40 degree range with no breeze. We had a 7.1 low
tide at 10:41 so there was lots of mud flats to inspect.

Highlights included a EURASIAN WIGEON, a couple of PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2
WILSON'S SNIPE, and a HUTTON'S VIREO.

We had most of the usual suspects on the pond at the visitor's center and
had 2 WILSON'S SNIPE across the pond where it joins the ponds along the
boardwalk to the twin barns. We missed them at the start but picked them up
later in the day.

The HUTTON'S VIREO was in the riparian area along the entrance road across
from the orchard. It was with some RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS that offered great
comparisons.

The EURASIAN WIGEON was on the pond across from the orchard and was the
only WIGEON on the pond. It was hanging out with some MALLARDS and NORTHER
PINTAIL. We found lots of AMERICAN WIGEON later in the day.

We saw PEREGRINE FALCONS at several location today but there were 2 of them
sharing a small tree out in the reclamation area for a while. Later the
split up and went their separate ways.

We also were successful in finding the NORTHER SHRIKE that has eluded us
most of the winter. It was first spotted out along McAllister Creek from
the twin barns viewing platform and later seen behind the closed gate near
the start of the estuary boardwalk.

For the day I had 48 species and now have 55 for the year. Shep and the
others who walked the estuary boardwalk will have more to add to this list.

Remember, waterfowl hunting season closes Sunday so the estuary boardwalk
will be open the whole length starting Monday.
