just a quick update on my scout trip 1/27-1/30 for my upcoming WOS trip
over President's Day weekend co-lead by Scott Ramos.

Chuckar: Fancher Road and Conconully Highway
Northern Pygmy Owl: Mary Ann Creek, Chesaw Rd, Myers Rd
Sharp-tailed Grouse: Scotch Creek Wildlife Area
Gray-crowned Rosy-finch, 300+: Happy Hill Road
Townsends Solitaire: Conconully
Golden Eagle: Conconully
Pygmy Nuthatch: Conconully and Central Ferry Canyon
Snow Bunting: Timentwa Flats and Waterville Plateau.
Long-tailed Duck: Lake Pateros Overlooks
Prairie Falcon: G Rd NE between 16-17 NE of Mansfield.
American Tree Sparrow: Lamoine Windbreak
Gray Partridge: everywhere.
Horned Lark: everywhere.
Rough-legged Hawk: everywhere.
Pine Siskin: everywhere.

In general, the birding was *slow*. Meredith Spencer's reports were very
helpful, thanks Meredith! Although we dipped on the Harris Sparrow in
Bridgeport, and the Gyr on N Division and 26th. Hopefully these species
will be relocated! We did not know about the Snowy found on our go home
day.

I spoke with home owners that feed on Hungry-Hollow Road and Nealy Road,
they have had a slow finch year. No Gray-crowned Rosy-finch or Common
Redpolls. Both feeders had great looks at Mountain Chickadee, Black-capped
Chickadee, American Goldfinch, and Downy Woodpecker. A reliable report of
a Snowy Owl was seen at 376 Mary Ann Creek Road on 1/27, and a Great Grey
Owl at Highlands Snow Park 2 weeks ago.

We got lucky and had 300+ Gray-crowned Rosy-finch drop down on the road 50
feet from us on Happy Hill Road. I've never seen that before! Always
something different in this spectacularly beautiful area during the winter.
