Puget Sound Bird Observatory (PSBO), a local birding 501c3 non-profit, advocates for bird conservation, habitat preservation, and scientific studies that benefit birds in general and birds in the Pacific Northwest in particular.

That being said, PSBO teaches a beginner's bander course each year in August. Banding is the safest way to monitor birds, and collect data about their health, migration, reproductive rates, and habitat usage.

The class is five days, over the last two weekends in August so that people working only have to take one day off of work.

Once you have held these bundles of feathered energy, you will never look at birds the same way again.
They are awe inspiring, amazingly resilient entities with the will to fly great distances just to reach habitat that will support their reproduction and survival-ship.

Banding can help supply much needed data to document and protect Important Bird Areas.
