Nadine:

If you are truly concerned about protecting rare birds from other birders and nature photographers there are more effective, and sensitive, methods than the one you chose.

1. Suppress your sighting on EBird.
2. Do NOT share your photo or sighting on Tweeters.
3. Inform the appropriate County Compiler of the sighting. See list of compilers and their contact information on: www.washingtonbirder.com.
County Lists are monitored and updated based on timely documented reports. Steve Pink is the County Compiler for Snohomish County.

I have been back twice during daytime hours since the 9th, and not seen the Avocet. It's possible she has moved on already after a brief migratory stop or is feeding at another pond in the environs.
