On the way to and from the 11/1 Denny WOS FT along the Snake River, David and I stopped at a few of the spots where rarities had recently been reported.

On 10/31 at Scooteney Reservoir (Franklin Co), where the water is as low as we?ve ever seen it, we stopped in to check for shorebirds. As reported earlier, there were hundreds of Killdeer, and also several Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpipers, and one LB Dowitcher, viewed from the north end of the park. We also stopped on the way home today (11/2) where it was quite windy. Fewer shorebirds were present, many (though fewer) Killdeer and a half dozen peeps, probably Leasts, but too far away for certain i.d.

On 10/31 at Little Goose (Columbia Co) we did not find the Pacific Loon, but on our second check today, it was present, at first by the Juvenile Fish Facility near the visitor area, then conveniently swimming over to the opposite side for a two-fer in Whitman Co. There were no finches around, just a House Sparrow flock, a few Song Sparrows, and a beautiful male Varied Thrush. No unusual gulls or passerines there, nor at the boat launch past the dam.

A brief stop at Palouse Falls today yielded no Blue Jay, though there was a Code 3 Pine Siskin with a junco flock and a nice pair of Varied Thrushes.

On 10/31 at County Line Ponds on Hwy 26, at least one Trumpeter Swan (Code 3 in Grant Co) was with the large flock of Tundras.

It was snowing on Snoqualmie on the way home, but no problem with the road.
