Hi Tweeters,

Black-legged Kittiwake at Magnuson Park at sunset today (Nov 10).

Today was my daughter's birthday, and after the festivities of the day I had 30 minutes to bike down to Magnuson Park to see what I could find before dark. I reached the swimming area just after the sun disappeared behind the horizon. As I began scanning the gulls on the swimming platform, a small gull flew in and landed on the water near the swimming dock. I saw a flash of a black collar and recognized it as a Black-legged Kittiwake. I had my camera and began blasting away. Within seconds of landing, the kittiwake took flight and headed out farther over Lake Washington, landing about 250 meters offshore. Despite the low light some of the photos clearly show the field marks. See eBird link to the checklist, which includes photos of the bird.

Bird well,

Scot Duncan
