If the south half of the Edmonds pier will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to noon, then arrive by 7 a.m. The STGU was already on the south breakwater when I arrived at 7 a.m. today (Friday, 9-8-17). That offers potentially an hour and a half of viewing before the pier closure. If the gull returns to the breakwater on Saturday, it will be there all day since it feeds nocturnally and rests during the day. The pier will be accessible again after 3:30 p.m. and that will offer at least four hours of afternoon viewing opportunity. If the gull roosts on Saturday in the area in which it has been yesterday and today, it will be viewable from the plaza behind Anthony?s Restaurant, about halfway down the marina. The Edmonds location is not offering great photo opportunities, but it is offering very good scope views to tick this ABA mega-rarity.

And, it should not go without saying, everyone owes a great big thank you to Ryan Merrill for his astute ID of this gull at Seattle?s Carkeek Park on 8-31-17.
