One explanation I have heard for attacks by barred owls is that they are done by first year birds staking out territories who do not yet realize that jogging humans pose no threat.?

I have taken hundreds (if not thousands) of photos of resident barred owls in Edmonds parks without incident, including photos of adults feeding their young.? Many times the owls stare back at me as though they are asking, "Why are you bothering to photograph me?"
