This might be old news, but I just found out today.
The White River entrance that goes to Sunrise is currently closed due to the Norse Peak and Sawmill Creek fires in the areas. Also closed are the park trails that are accessed from Hwy 123 and Hwy 410, and of course Chinook Pass.
What is open, is Hwy 410 east to Hwy 123 (Cayuse Pass), Hwy 123 to Hwy 12, and the Stevens Canyon entrance.
So anybody that wants to go looking for Ptarmigan, owls, and other birds in the area should check the Mt. Rainier website. Sunrise might close for this year.

Now, Sherry and I hiked the Paradise Glacier trail and had just great weather. We had 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS and a NORTHERN HARRIER, signs of fall migration. We had around 100 Vaux?s Swifts, mixed with VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, and several BLACK SWIFTS flying over the Stevens Canyon area. We also had 4 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, 5 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 1 AMERICAN DIPPER, and 60 AMERICAN PIPITS
