Hi Tweets,

I heard a bird song today at Stillwater that was unfamiliar to me. I know this is a long shot, but I'm going to try to describe it in the hopes that someone might recognize it. This is your mission, should you choose to accept it!

The bird, which I heard but didn't see, was about 1/8 of a mile south of the Stillwater parking lot, on the west side of the trail, up in the tops of the willows.

It repeated about 3 sets of two whistled notes, the top one higher and sliding down a third to the second note.

The tempo was very even: whee-oo, whee-oo, whee-oo. (If your know the dreidel song, it was just like that melody: "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel.")

The pitch and tone were very high and pure, in the range of a Common Yellowthroat, but it didn't have the Yellowthroat's syncopated wickety wickety rhythm. It might have been fairly small, because it was impossible to see.

I thought it might be a warbler, but couldn't find any with that song.

I'm stumped… Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tina Blade
