Hi Tweets! (Apologies to those who must be indoors this week, but...) This morning was a glorious spring day in Yost Park in Edmonds: warm sunshine, little wind, lots of singing birds, and mini, super green leaves that beautified the valley, but did not obscure the birds. My target was really Black-throated Gray Warbler, reliably found here in the past and recently reported in several other areas in western Washington. I've typically been able to see them at nearly eye level, from the main path that passes north of the Yost pool; today kept the streak going. In addition to Orange-crowned Warbler (unusually high up in the alders), after a few minutes of watching them, several BC Chickadees, and a gorgeous RB Sapsucker, there it was - a superb Black-throated Gray! I yielded to the guilty pleasure of playing its call briefly and it came roaring in to the nearest branch to see what was up. 24 species in Yost today - come see them all before the leaves burst out (by Friday??) and make the viewing a whole lot harder.
