If you've been wondering why eBird is asking for details on Tree Swallows
in September, or if you're becoming concerned about the status of
White-tailed Ptarmigan in the WA Cascades, make sure you've checked out the
recent postings on eBird NW. It includes an article on fall swallow
challenges, both identification and understanding distribution; it's not as
simple as you might think! And the article on ptarmigan describes how
eBirders can contribute significantly to monitoring ptarmigan populations
in the region. eBird Central provides a description of their improvements
to the checklist review process and eBird NW continues its running series
on Year of the Bird with thoughts about birding on public lands.

Northwest eBirders should make eBird NW their home page, as it includes all
of the important notices from eBird Central and additional content designed
for the Northwest. Access it at: https://ebird.org/pnw/home. Also,
make sure that your eBird app settings are set to eBird Pacific Northwest
as your portal. Identifying your checklists as eBird NW doesn't affect
how they are treated by eBird, it does provide us with data on portal use.
