Out here in the Belfair/Tahuya area there has been a shortage of all kinds of birds since early last week when the smoke really started getting bad. All the Black-headed Grosbeak, Band-tailed Pigeon, crows, ravens, raptors and all but one Jay are gone and that one only showed up 2 days ago. All that's left are Chickadees, a few Juncoes, the lone Jay and the four Rock Doves that hung out with the BTPigs. The Mountain Quail are around but not much in my yard. I hope they all decided to go up to high elevations away from this heat and air quality.

Even the insect numbers are way down. This time of year I'm usually hearing and seeing grasshoppers blatting their way around the yard but none have been around in about 2 weeks now. A lone mosquito and a bunch of no-see-ums visited me as I watered yesterday. The crickets are still around the house in good numbers and are pleasant to listen to as I fall asleep with the windows open.

Hopefully some cleaner air and a shower or two will bring things back.
