Hello all,

The Millet Pond was incredible this morning - fairly clear air, windy
and cool! Our long-awaited first Walla Walla County record of BLACK
PHOEBE was at blind #9 on the north dike.  After seeing one just 30
miles to the west August 30, 2009 at Cold Springs NWR Umatilla Co. OR -
we have been looking - and were finally rewarded.

A male LARK BUNTING was seen briefly - by MerryLynn, a young was seen by
Mike at Ayer 2 days ago. Not sure why these birds are coming this way- 
2nd and 3rd records for Walla Walla county - the first was in Walla
Walla June of 1993 just before the WOS conference.

Another 3rd record for the county - NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH! Habitat is
perfect right now thanks to US F&W pumping water back into the northeast
pond.

Three WHITE-FACED IBIS flew over - headed west.

At the Walla Walla River delta a FRANKLIN'S GULL was the only bird of
note. Along Railex rd in a puddle was a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. The water
level in the river is very high so no shorebird habitat. Simplot ponds
are also high - only 3 Yellowlegs there.

At Peninsula HMU we did a jaeger watch with no luck - but did have 2
very tame Solitary Sandpipers 5 ft from us as we ate lunch. Amazing
numbers of swallows everywhere today - hundreds on lines and many more
over the river. Mostly Tree and Bank but Barn and Cliff in lesser numbers.
