In regards to the sighting of the yellow shafted intergrade flicker, I had a some what similar sighting in my back yard in Fremont last weekend. I had a group of three Northern Flickers - a red shafted male and a female that I did not get to see the under side of the wings but I believe it was the red shafted female that frequents my yard with the red shafted male. But the third bird that was a new arrival seemed to be not an intergrade but a full blown yellow shafted male. It definitely had the black mustache and red collar pictured on a yellow shafted male at the Cornell site, not the red mustache pictured on the intergrade male. I had never seen the black mustached male with the red collar before - I ran to get my camera but was too late!

When we entered the lot from the north, a sign pointed to the left saying “parking for trail. We drove the length of the parking, but it was all full so we drove around and were planning to return early another morning. The sign did seem to suggest that yesterday’s email was correct. I am confused.

She was frequently raising up out of the water like she was doing a little dance. I wonder if she may be getting ready to migrate back north. I hope she safely finds her way back home and is able to meet up with others of her own kind.
