Sherry and I headed out to Ocean Shores in hopes to have the same success as our friend Lucky Lonnie did on the 4th. We found the ROSS'S GOOSE on the golf course with the GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE no problem. The crossbills took a little more effort. We found a large mixed flock of RED and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS on Discovery Ave. We checked the marina, and saw 1 RED-THROATED LOON, 2 COMMON LOONS, several WESTERN GREBES, and both SURF and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS. A good variety of ducks were seen at the STP. Here we were treated to a PEREGRINE FALCON chasing a flock of GREEN-WINGED TEAL. Though the peregrine did not get a catch, it sure put on a great aerial show. We walked down the beach in hopes of finding the third scoter, Black, but no luck. We also did not see the Rough-legged Hawk that has been reported in that area. The jetty was also unproductive for us. No shorebirds, just lots of pounding waves. Perkins Pond was more productive, we had AMERICAN WIGEON, HOODED MERGANSERS, RINGED-NECKED DUCKS, FOX SPARROWS, GOLDEN-CROWNED and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS. On the way home we made the loop around Brady Loop Rd. We had over 250 TRUMPETER SWANS, and 2 SNOW GEESE, our fifth goose species for the day. The most numerous mammal for the day was the Black-tailed Deer, we counted over 50 while driving around. We stopped to look at a group of eight, and had a spike walk right up to us while we sat in the car.
