Regarding unusual behavior for American Dippers, we saw one on Wednesday in
Lake Whatcom, hopping from rock to rock and often swimming. Soon enough it
came up with a (very) small fish, which it pummeled to death on a rock and
devoured. On Tuesday, at Lake Padden, approximately 50 male Common
Mergansers swimming in formation up and down the lake. What do you suppose
was up with that?
