The juvenile male Rose-breasted Grosbeak continues to visit my Seattle
backyard, at least every other day, sometimes multiple times per day. He
seems to prefer the morning and the late afternoon, frequently stopping in
for a snack just before sundown between 3:30 and 4:30.

Feel free to come by and watch for him. The best viewing is from the wooden
gate on the North-west corner of the duplex (1900/1902 N 55th st). Birders
are welcomed to watch from the side yard, standing behind the gate, or even
around the other side of the house if he is better viewed from there.

He usually approaches from along the block to the northwest, sometimes
visible in the birch and pine trees, and often spending time in bushes the
yard just to the northwest across the wooden fence. In my yard he spends
time sitting on the tube sunflower feeder, on the ground beneath it, or in
the surrounding trees and bushes.

He came by 3 times this morning between 8:30 and 9:30, and I was able to
get some fun video of him feeding on the ground by poking my camera out of
the (normally blocked) cat door. I'm happy to report that his bill is
looking to be in better shape than it did when he initially showed up on

I have heard a couple of complaints from my neighbor in the other side of
the duplex that some folks have been a little loud for his liking, so I'd
request that anyone who comes by tries to keep conversations to a "library
volume" while waiting for the bird to make an appearance.
