Dear Tweeters,
The female Steller's Eider is still being reported in Seaside, Oregon. I am planning to go down there and try for it this weekend, but have a few questions.
--From the I-5 corridor, heading south toward this site, is it better to go via Longview (more interstate driving, slightly more miles), or is it better to go by way of Olympia and Aberdeen (slightly fewer miles, but more driving on smaller highways)?
--Where in Seaside does one go? The maps on eBird seem to indicate that the bird is being seen at the southern end of town, along Sunset Boulevard. Is there parking there? A public beach access? Or is this one of those stakeouts where birders need to deal with private property issues?
--Is there any decent but reasonable lodging in the vicinity, that birders might care to recommend?
--Are there any good birding sites nearby, just in case I find the eider quickly and have time to enjoy birding?

I'd most likely be driving down there tonight, in the darkness. I hope I don't have both of my car's headlights fail at the same time, the way they did on my way to dipping the Little Bunting a few years ago!
Thanks.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
