I hit the Everett waterfront this morning in hopes of finding the
Franklin's Gulls Ann Marie Wood and Steve Pink found there last night. I
scoured every gull roost I knew of without luck, but while scanning the
outlet of the Snohomish River I located a small tern loosely associating
with some sub-adult Bonaparte's Gulls. The bird was fairly far out and
disappeared around Jetty Island. I relocated to the viewpoint at Legion
Park and was able to relocated the bird from there. It had a gray body
which eliminated Forsters tern and leaving Common and Arctic. Proportions
of bill length and tail streamer length seemed to be more consistent with
Common Tern, which would also be the more likely species, but I'd be happy
for someone to relocate the bird and get photos proving me wrong. Arctic
Tern used to breed in Everett until about 15 years ago. There was also a
late Gray Whale off Jetty Island as well.

I stopped at the Everett Sewage Ponds and found the two Franklin's Gulls
there. The first time I've seen this species in breeding plumage.
