Dear Tweeters,
We had company visiting all weekend, so I did not go on any far-flung birding forays. That turned out well.
An odd-looking hummingbird had been appearing at my feeders for a few days, always in the dim light of the eventide. Today, under an overcast sky (small rain down can rain), the light was good, and as soon as I sat down on the porch, an adult male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD came in to try his luck amongst the throng of Rufous and Anna's Hummingbirds! Yard bird number 159!
Common Nighthawks and Black Swifts have been showing up around the Cockreham Island area the last few evenings, too. It's a good time of year for homebody birding.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
