From: Tom Mansfield - birds at t-mansfield.com

Will Brooks, studying evolutionary biology at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, was honored last night during the Washington Ornithological Society ("WOS") Conference at Hood River, OR. He received the Patrick Sullivan Young Birders Fund ("PSYBF") honorarium for 2018. An active member of the Tweeters community and eBirder, Will received the grant after proposing a study of the overlapping pugetensis (western) and gambelli (eastern) populations of White-Crowned Sparrow occurring uniquely in the high Cascades of King, Pierce and Yakima counties. The results of his 2-month study may be history-making as the role of song in reproductive isolation in this population has never been documented scientifically. More details of Will's proposed study are available in the current WOS Newsletter (#174) at www.wos.org<http://www.wos.org> under the publications tab. The PSYBF accepts grant applications in January/February each year with the goal of financially supporting unique birding activities for young birders. Additional information and the grant application are on the WOS website. Please donate and apply!
