Today 35 of us enjoyed a productive, if chilly, walk at Nisqually. It
was 31 degrees at the start but warmed up nicely...until we hit the
north wind on the estuary dike. We were on a falling tide there as we
had a 1.7 low tide at 3:49 PM.

Highlights included the continuing NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, the GREAT
HORNED OWL on her nest, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, and lots of pair bonding
activity.

At the visitor center overlook we were treated to several HOODED
MERGANSERS having territorial discussions. We also had a WILSON'S
SNIPE that flew low over the pond and disappeared into some marsh
grass.

In the orchard we had a male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD J diving. We never saw
the female but we know she was there.

We saw TREE SWALLOWS over the visitor center and the twin barns area
and saw BARN SWALLOWS over the pond across b=from the parking lot.

The PEREGRINES FALCONS were in the cottonwood tree near the Nisqually
overlook and took turns flying out over the reclamation area.

There was a lone GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE with some CACKLING GEESE
inside the estuary dike as we headed out to the estuary boardwalk.

For the day I had 55 species and now have 71 for the year. Mammals
seen included COYOTE, BLACK-TAILED DEER and GRAY SQUIRREL.
