Hello, Tweeters,

Just one month until the 2018 Olympic BirdFest, a great way to celebrate early spring migrants along with the last of the winter holdovers. The main part of the festival is Friday thru Sunday, Apr 13-15, with lots of field trips around the north Olympic Peninsula from Sequim Bay to the Elwha River, along with a banquet at the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's Red Cedar Room overlooking Sequim Bay. The banquet speaker this year is Claudio Vidal, South American ornithologist, who will speak about "Patagonia & Chile: Birds & Mammals at the End of the Americas".

Tweeters might be most interested in the post-festival excursion "Neah Bay: Birding at the Beginning of the World," running from Apr 15-17 and staying at the Makah Tribe's Hobuck Beach Resort. We plan to check out birding hot-spots around Neah Bay, look for migrating raptors over Bahokus Peak, and, with cooperative weather, go on a pelagic trip to Swiftsure Bank and the top of the Juan de Fuca Canyon.

The pre-festival excursion is a three-day cruise around the San Juan Islands from Tuesday thru Thursday, Apr 10-12, on the M/V Glacier Spirit, including two nights at Roche Harbor, a day cruise to Sucia Island, and usually excellent luck finding orcas and other marine mammals along with all the birds. Registration for the San Juan cruise is at http://www.pugetsoundexpress.com/tours/multi-day-tours/3-day-san-juan-islands-wildlife-cruise/ <http://www.pugetsoundexpress.com/tours/multi-day-tours/3-day-san-juan-islands-wildlife-cruise/>

Registration and calendar for all other events is at www.olympicbirdfest.org <http://www.olympicbirdfest.org/>. All proceeds from the festival go to support the Dungeness River Audubon Center, an exceptionally worthy cause.
