Hi Jennifer,
I live in Lake Forest Park and have found the jays like peanuts in the
shell, and the flickers like suet. That said, the jays, whom I love, only
seem to come in summer and fall -- I hear them up the hill all the time,
but I guess they only want to come down to my house and eat sometimes. :-)
Too much competition from squirrels maybe?
I have also seen the larger birds (including a pileated woodpecker once,
which was quite a sight -- normally they're way high up in the trees by my
house) eat from my large hanging platform. It also attracts three local
doves, whose cooing I love.
Enjoy,
Cindy
