Bart,

For several years an Osprey overwintered near the gap between Selah and
Yakima, in Yakima County. One winter the Osprey there had a very overgrown
bill. This past winter is the first in a while when we didn't see one there.

The first one I saw this year in Yakima County was along the I-82 corridor,
immediately east of the Yakima River, near milepost 52. That's close to the
southern of two exits to Toppenish. That was on March 13. I think that's a
little later than Jeff Kozma usually spots one. He's a biologist who
usually commutes that corridor, but not this year. A week later, on March
20th, I saw 8 from the interstate over a 20 mile stretch, and probably
missed seeing more that were there.
