Hey all,

It's November! That means it's time to start thinking about the Toppenish Christmas Bird Count. I will be coordinating the count again this year, after handing over duties to Andy last year. I'm excited to be able to make the count; I'll be flying in from Toronto on the 14th, and with my circadian rhythms linked to the east coast, I should be up and at em by 3:00am for owling! The count will be on the 15th of December this year, and we will be meeting at the Branding Iron outside of Toppenish at 7:00am for breakfast, 7:30am if you don't want breakfast. This is an all day event, and we'll be out in the field from around 8:00am to 4:00pm. It can be cold, so be sure to bring plenty of layers! Make sure you bring lunch; a hot beverage is always nice too. The count is always a ton of fun, as we typically see a lot of birds, and spend the day in some great birding areas. Dinner afterwards will be graciously hosted by Debie and Ron Brown; thanks guys! If you plan on coming to dinner, consider bringing something to eat, as it will be a potluck-style event. There we will recount our day, tally up the species, and have a great meal with friends. If you have done the count before, I hope to see you there again this year! If you haven't done a Christmas bird count before, consider joining us for a fun day of bird counting. This is a great event for beginners and experts alike; we all learn a ton from events like this. And don't worry, waking up at 3:00am for owling is not a requirement!

I hope to see plenty of faces there this year! If you have any questions regarding the count, please feel free to shoot me an email. If you're interested in participating, shoot me an email as well!

Good birding,

Eric Heisey
