Out here on the Tahuya end of the Kitsap peninsula we sometimes get migrating birds. Today it must have been Bald Eagle Day. At daybreak two were calling just below my house as I put out bird seed. Earliest in the day I've heard eagles around here. Later, between 1:20 and 1:45 while out raking leaves (losing battle) eagles seemed to be moving through. First there were three (2 adults and 1 juv) low over the ridge here all calling. Quite aways above was a fourth eagle circling on the thermal and it finally headed south. The first three birds headed back north along the ridge top. About 10 minutes later two adult eagles came in low calling while two others higher above circled, gained altitude and headed south. Another 10 minutes later the family of three were back just overhead, calling and calling. Much higher above were three more eagles soaring on thermals before heading south. Finally, after my telling neighbors who just got home about the eagles, two more eagles high above headed south. So, it's been at least an 8 eagle day out here. Best part was seeing 6 at one time.

I'm guessing the family that stayed low along the ridge were our local family and their calls both greeted and warned off the migrants as they passed through the local family's territory.

Could one have a better afternoon of raking than that. Kind of hard though to get much raking done while watching eagles.
