Tweets,
today 20 of us enjoyed a great day at Nisqually. It was breezy and we
had a bit of drizzle, but it wasn't too bad. We had a 13.5 high tide
at 12:34 PM so there was virtually no mud in the reclamation area.
Highlights included a continuing WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, SNOW GEESE,
and a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER.
The WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continues in the orchard near the entrance
by the education center. It was foraging with some GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS.
We had a couple of fly overs by a pair of SNOW GEESE giving everyone
great looks. We also had a fly over by 7 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
that somehow I missed.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was seen a couple of times associating with
some BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS out over the reclamation area. It landed
several times affording good comparative looks with the BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS and the contrast was even greater when the flock flew off
together.
Waterfowl are increasing in number and the ponds are slowly filling
up. Among others, we saw a EURASIAN WIGEON in the field not far from
the entrance to the twin barns boardwalk.
For the day I had 44 species and now have 125 for the year. Mammals
seen included BLACK-TAILED DEER, COYOTE, GRAY SQUIRREL, and HARBOR
SEAL.
Until next week....
