Hi all, this is the eBird checklist for the September 5th weekly bird walk at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. We missed having our usual leaders - Phil Kelley and Shep Thorp put a lot of time in volunteering to lead these walks, but were called away to other duties this morning.

It was a beautiful day to be out birding, although the passerine birds were a bit spotty. However, we did get to view a few mixed-species flocks, and got great views of Black-throated Gray Warblers, Willow Flycatchers, and California Scrub-Jays. There are a lot of young birds-of-the-year to be seen, making species identifications more problematic. Those who went out onto the estuary boardwalk were treated to views of Baird's Sandpipers in the 'peep' flock. The vanguard of the fall waterfowl are being seen, with our first-of-the-season American Wigeon and a Common Merganser.

Here's hoping to see you at Nisqually, where we meet at the Visitors' Center at 8 a.m. every Wednesday. Good Birding,

- Jon. Anderson
