Sorry, it was actually a juvenile Caspian Tern. I so wanted it to be a Common Tern, a lifer, that I "wished" it into a Common. They do, however, look a lot alike (except for size). Thanks to Stuart Johnston in Lyle, WA for setting me straight.

Another bird recently posted that has a look-alike "twin", (except for size) is the Stilt Sandpiper. See my picture of the Stilt Sandpiper and a larger Yellowlegs:

Subject: [Tweeters] Common Tern at Cedar River mouth today

Beginning at 1:30pm until I left at 3:20, the Common Tern joined 19 Caspian Terns on the most distant sand island. Obvious was the orange not red-orange bill, rather orange legs and the distinctive wing pattern. It was smaller than the Caspians, but not as much as I had been led to believe. Many thanks to the Seattle couple and their scopes for a lifer.
