On this morning's Wednesday morning bird walk at RR Bridge Park, we discovered a male Phainopepla in a scrubby area on the west side of the Dungeness River. The bird is hanging around, still present this afternoon flycatching and eating berries in a big blue elderberry bush. It seems quite territorial, even trying to supplant waxwings from the bush, so maybe it will stick around.

The location is west of Sequim, near the intersection of Runnion Rd and Sawmill Rd. This is at the west end of RR Bridge Park along the Olympic Discovery Trail. If anyone goes to see the bird, please park in the parking lot at the intersection of Runnion and Sawmill, then walk about 100 yards west on Sawmill Rd and look over the fence in the elderberry bushes to the south. The local neighbors have expressed displeasure about cars parked along the roads.
