Dear Ruth and Tweeters,
It is good to hear that Green Herons are showing up on Whidbey Island. In Skagit County, they are harder to find than they used to be. I have not found one yet this year, and I have been looking in the places where they used to show up more regularly. In the 1990's and 2000's, they were fairly easy to find upriver, such as in Concrete and Hamilton. They were regular in Sedro-Woolley until a few years ago. 
August and September is often a good time to find wandering Green Herons, so many they will show up here soon. There have been a few records from the Fir Island Game Range this month.

It's been a productive few days for Green Herons on Whidbey. After 5 years of looking for this species all over the island, we have seen one on three of the past four days. There was a heron at Deer Lagoon, along the trail to the west dike in the general area of the snags which are to the right of the trail, on Sunday and Monday, and another sighting Wednesday afternoon and evening at Crockett Lake, in the tide gate channel adjacent to Callen's Restaurant.

Have Green Herons been showing up more than usual elsewhere in the region?
