I got word today from WDFW that there is a temporary closure for the
Big Ditch access north of Stanwood until October 1. This is a temporary
closure due to the increasing amount of vandalism, target shooting,
overnight camping and large trash dumps on this site. The Dike District is
very concerned about the potential to damage the tide gate infrastructure.
This is sad news for those of us who use the area responsibly. There
simply is not enough staff WDFW staff or funding to monitor this area to
keep it free from misuse.

It appears that vandalism and serious misuse of our public lands, including
WDFW, is on the rise.

If you see something happening on WDFW lands you can always call the
poaching hotline or if you do not feel safe at the site, at least take
photos of the offenders and report it after you have left the area.
Poaching or other misdeeds hotline for WDFW: 877-933-9847 for non
emergency otherwise in an emergency dial 911 (including crimes in progress).
