The Kent Stilt Sandpiper was still around Wednesday afternoon, as late as 2:30 P.M.


I first looked for it at the spot along the Green River Trail, just north of Three Friends Fishing Hole Park (FYI - it's not Kent's "Old Fishing Hole Park" - that's a different park). When I got there around 2PM I ran into Curtis and Bobbie Pearson and KathyCooper, who had seen it there on the river sandbar. Unfortunately, it had just flown. Knowing it had also been seen at the S. 204th St stormwater ponds I trucked over there and found it on the NE corner of the eastern pond. That's the pond closest to the road. There was also a molting adult Greater Yellowlegs and a crisp-looking juvenile Lesser legs. After a bit a Spotted Sandpiper showed itself as well, for a nice show of leggy sandpiper types.


They all worked their way around the E, NE, and SE corners, alternately feeding and dozing. At one point the Lesser legs bathed by spasmodically flying around and dashing/crashing into the surface of the water, as well as a bit of a more orthodox standing and shaking the wings. Hadn't seen that crazy sort of bathing behavior before!
