Hi all,

A little late in posting this but I thought it worth sharing. While on a
weekend road trip with my wife, we stopped in for a bit of a sea watch at
North Head Lighthouse in Cape Disappointment SP. Initially for an hour
there were few birds overall, just a handful of Sooty Shearwaters in the
distance, a Red-throated Loon, about 8 Pacific Loons, two Peregrine Falcons
near the light house, and a scattering of other coastal birds. Then about
9:45am Sooty Shearwaters began pouring in from the north, at rates of
50-100/sec. All said and done I estimated 40,000 but likely much more than
this. They initially were loafing in rafts -- I was able to easily pick
out a MANX SHEARWATER on the near side of the flock as well as a Northern
Fulmar. The birds then moved in waves to the south and formed a huge
feeding frenzy, circling and alternately dropping into the water -- it's
worth checking out a couple of short clips I posted below. A very cool
experience.
