I had a pretty good idea it would be a good day for migrants here at the east end of the Columbia River Gorge when I saw five Black-throated Gray Warblers in the bird bath while I was making coffee. This warbler was the most numerous of the 39 species that we saw here this morning with about a dozen in the trees around us at about anytime for over a three hour period. The second most common warbler today was Townsend's Warbler followed by Hermit Warbler and hybrids between the two. Despite Lesser Goldfinches being easy to find in Clark County to our west or Klickitat County to the east they have always been difficult to find in Skamania County but today we had at least two dozen on our feeders and eating Shasta Daisy seed heads. The real surprise was a Lewis's Woodpecker that I spotted in the dead top of a fir tree at the edge of our field. Wilson Cady
