Hi Tweeters,

I visited my favorite birding place in Clark County hoping for a decent
showing of passerine migrants. I was rewarded for the effort. The number
of warblers from 6:30-8 a.m. totaled about 360 individuals! Birds were
flowing through the area - 95% of them at eye level and in good light. No
warbler neck! There was an indication early on that things would be
special when I looked at a ten foot tall bush which held 10 Black-throated
Gray, 4 Townsend's and 1 Hermit Warbler! Throughout the time of
observation, flocks of 50-60 warblers, Warbling Vireos, and Western
Tanagers would flood through which made it difficult to keep numbers up to
date. Probably some of the more common species (Black-throated Gray - 110,
Townsend's - 94, Orange-crowned - 82) were undercounted by 20%. There was
one pure flock of 23 Western Tanagers! Big influx of Red-breasted
Nuthatches (21). My usual total is about 3. Exact location can be seen on
the bird reports.

This compares to what I thought was a great day at the same location
yesterday (highlighted by 2 Nashville Warblers) with strong gusty winds:

What a difference 24 hours and a drop in the wind makes!

Keep your eyes and ears skyward.
