This morning Les Carlson joined us on the front deck to watch for migrants moving down the 1,000' ridge we live on east of Washougal. We had gone from 90 degrees and sunshine yesterday to rain and thunder this morning. We kept under a covered area until the rain subsided but the birding was pretty slow until Susan alerted us to a bunch of warblers and vireos moving through the woods on the other side of the house. From the north deck we enjoyed the Orange-crowned, Yellow, Townsend's, Hermit and Black-throated Gray Warblers from close range, we even had a Hermit Warbler that perched on a shepherd's hook twenty feet in front of us. One warbler with a gray head was briefly seen and could have been either a MacGillivray's or a Nashville. When things slowed down Les and I headed up to Bonneville Dam to check for shorebirds on Strawberry Island but there wasn't even a Killdeer on the pond at the juvenile fish facility but we did have three small ducks in eclipse plumage, two were Green-winged Teal and the third teal was a little larger and a very pale brown/tan coloration, I have posted photos on the Western Washington Birders facebook page.
