Hey tweets, I'm updating my life list to put it into harmony with the latest AOS, something I haven't attended to in *years.*

I'm confused about the nomenclature for Spotted Dove, and I was hoping some taxonmically inclined Tweeters might help me out.

As best as I can tell, the latest AOS list puts Spotted Dove in the genus Streptopelia, with the species being: chinensis.

However, other authorities place Spotted Dove in the genus Spilopelia, with the species being suratensis.

There is a discussion in Wikipedia about this. The article quotes DNA research from 2001 to claim that Spilopelia is the correct genus. Wikipedia, however, retains the species nam chinensis.

Which of these variations is correct? I'm inclined to follow AOS, since that is the authority I am using for other data, including taxonomic order. Does anybody know if the AOS committee considered the 2001 data discussed in Wikipedia (and then rejected it)? Help! - Connie, Seattle
